"March for Love" (2nd of 4 screenplay acts)



Marcel Camus’ 1959 film brings the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to the 20th-century madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

 

She is nearly 40 and single. He is 23. She is keeping him a secret.


Yvonne, an older black woman looking for love, interviewed Alex at a march for a more diverse university faculty on assignment for a San Francisco newspaper.


After they begin dating, the school is bombed, and she worries that he may have done it.

 

Alex grew up in Senegal with his Peace Corps’ parents. Yvonne’s parents immigrated from Belize. The two share a passion for social justice.
