“What else do you do for relaxation, Angelica?”
“I listen to Tom Jones.”
“You’re kidding me! My grandmother loved him.”
“Your grandmother and me. He relaxes me.”
“Are you seeing anyone?”
Taken aback, she jerked her head back, chin to neck. “Seeing anyone?”
Realizing that he had been too abrupt, he tried to tone down his curiosity. He tucked his shirt into his trousers. “I just wondered how you were getting on, whether you were meeting people, making friends. When we first got here, we found it difficult to even find people to talk to.”
Angelica released her head and sank back into her chair relieved when he represented himself as part of an unthreatening “we”. Their food arrived.
